Rizzoli’s money paid for Fellini’s La Dolce Vita and 8½.
Angelo Rizzoli grew up in a Milan orphanage, trained there as a typesetter, and never read the books he went on to publish. In the 1960s his weekly Oggi sold more than 900,000 copies, more than any other in Italy. He backed La Dolce Vita and produced 8½, Fellini’s film about a director who has lost his film. Its producer, Pace, was a caricature of Rizzoli himself.
