Ritz-Carlton’s name came with one old Boston hotel when a Waffle House franchisee bought it.
By 1951 the Ritz-Carlton hotels that had stood from New York to Buenos Aires were down to one, in Boston, after New York’s was torn down for offices. In 1983 William B. Johnson, who had owned more Waffle Houses than anyone, paid $75.5 million for that hotel and the American rights to the name.
