Red Bull was not invented from scratch in Austria.
Dietrich Mateschitz discovered Krating Daeng, a Thai tonic for truck drivers, in Thailand. He partnered with its Thai maker, and in 1987 launched a reformulated version in Austria, in a slim can, as Red Bull. Mateschitz died in 2022 as Austria’s richest person, worth an estimated $27 billion.
