Raising Cane’s business plan got the worst grade in the class.
In 1994, Todd Graves and Craig Silvey wrote up Graves’s chicken-finger concept for an LSU business class. The professor said a one-item menu wouldn’t work. Rejected by banks too, Graves worked a refinery and fished Alaskan salmon to raise cash. Because he kept about 90 percent of the chain, the worst-graded plan has made him worth about $20 billion.
