In 1905, Frank Epperson left a cup of sugary water with a wooden mixing stick on his porch overnight. The temperature dropped below freezing. He found it solid in the morning. He called it an Epsicle. He patented it 19 years later, then sold the rights when he went broke — never sharing in the fortune.
