Pillsbury’s food for astronauts gave the world its standard for safe food.
In the 1960s NASA asked Pillsbury to make the first food for space. Pillsbury’s Howard Bauman borrowed NASA’s hunt for the places a mission could fail, and turned it on the company’s own plants after glass was found in a baby cereal. The FDA adopted his Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point system in 1972, still the food industry’s standard.
