Perrier’s natural fizz is now topped up with gas from outside its spring.
Its spring at Vergèze, France, is naturally carbonated — water and gas bubble up together. For years the plant captured the two separately and recombined them for bottling. By 2018 Perrier’s French label called it natural mineral water with added carbon dioxide, which under EU rules means gas from somewhere other than the spring. Perrier France said the change would drastically cut its water use.
