Nespresso sat unwanted inside Nestlé for over a decade.
The concept was patented in 1976. It faced years of internal opposition before finally launching in 1986. Then it nearly failed commercially. Its inventor, Eric Favre, had left Nestlé by 1991, long before George Clooney became Nespresso’s face.
