Mondelez is the old Kraft, renamed in 2012 with a word its staff invented.
When Kraft Foods split in 2012, its grocery half kept the Kraft name. The snacks half, with Oreo and Cadbury, was legally the old company, and staff sent in 1,700 names. The winner joined monde, French for world, to delez, meant to suggest delicious. Within a day, Russian speakers said it sounded like a vulgar word for a sex act.
