Frank Mars launched the bar in 1923, after two decades of candy flops, built to taste like the chocolate-malt milkshakes Americans drank at soda fountains. Mostly whipped egg, sugar and air, the oversized nickel bar was cheap to make and an instant hit. He named it for the milkshake he was copying, not the galaxy.
