Michael Kors chose his own name at the age of five.
He was born Karl Anderson Jr. In 1964, when his mother, Joan, married Bill Kors, she told him, “You’re getting a new last name, so why don’t you pick a new first name?” He picked Michael, with David for the middle. At her first fitting he told her the wedding dress was too busy, and asked the tailor to take off every bow.
