Max Factor painted Hollywood’s most photographed faces for the camera.
Maksymilian Faktorowicz is said to have done wigs and makeup for Russia’s Imperial court, even Tsar Nicholas II’s family. He fled anti-Jewish persecution and reached America in 1904 with $400. There he made up silent stars from Mary Pickford to Gloria Swanson. Then he sold his makeup to the public, promising any girl she could look like a movie star.
