Maker’s Mark seals every bottle with its signature dripping red wax.
Each bottle’s neck is plunged into hot wax by hand at the distillery in Loretto, Kentucky, creating a unique drip pattern. No two bottles look exactly the same. Margie Samuels insisted on the process in 1958. The wax was never automated.
