L’Oréal was founded on a single hair-dye formula.
Eugène Schueller, a 26-year-old French chemist, mixed a safer synthetic hair dye in 1907, making it at night and selling it to Parisian hairdressers by day. In 1909 an accountant’s 25,000-franc inheritance bankrolled the company. That stake built the world’s largest cosmetics maker — now over €44 billion in annual sales.
