LG began as a face cream whose lids kept breaking.
In 1947 Koo In-hwoi’s Lucky Cream cost twice as much as imported creams and sold anyway, until customers began returning it. No one in Korea made plastic, so he bought an injection-molding machine from America. Plastic combs followed, then GoldStar, maker of Korea’s first radio. In 1995 Lucky-Goldstar shortened its name to LG.
