Levi’s blue jeans were not invented by Levi Strauss alone.
Jacob Davis, a Reno tailor, came up with riveting the stress points — pockets and fly — after a customer’s pants kept tearing. He couldn’t afford to file a patent. So in 1872 he wrote to Levi Strauss to do it together. Davis invented the riveted pants. Strauss put his name on the label.
