KitKat is named after a mutton pie served to London politicians.
Around 1700 a pie-house keeper in London, Christopher Catling, gave his name to the mutton pies he served the Kit-Cat Club, a gathering of Whig politicians and writers. Rowntree’s of York trademarked the name in 1911 and in 1937 gave it to the wafer bar it had launched two years earlier as Chocolate Crisp.
