Kinder Surprise is sold in every major market except America, where it is banned.
FDA food-safety rules forbid embedding a non-food object inside candy, so the toy sealed inside makes the egg adulterated. Abroad, tens of billions have sold since 1974, and Ferrero sells Americans the split-package Kinder Joy, which keeps the toy out of the food. The ban traces to a 1938 law, written 36 years before the egg existed.
