Hugo Boss’s founder was saved from bankruptcy by Nazi Party uniform orders.
In 1931 Hugo Boss’s clothing factory in Metzingen was facing bankruptcy. That year he joined the Nazi Party, and the party began ordering uniforms from him. He later said he would never have got the orders that rescued his company had he not joined. In the war it made uniforms for the army and the Waffen-SS with 140 forced laborers.
