Hewlett-Packard settled its name order with a coin toss in a rented Palo Alto garage.
Bill Hewlett won the flip, so the company was not Packard-Hewlett. In 1939 he and David Packard had $538 and a one-car garage at 367 Addison Avenue. Their first product was an audio oscillator, and their first big customer was Walt Disney, who bought eight to test the surround sound for Fantasia.
