Hershey, the chocolate giant, is quietly controlled by an owner few would expect.
Milton Hershey went bankrupt, then failed again, before chocolate made him rich. Having no children, in 1918 he gave his fortune — and control of his company — to a school he founded for orphans. Its trust still holds about 80% of Hershey’s voting power and assets of more than $23 billion.
