Grey Poupon was phased out in France by its own makers in the 1970s.
In 1970 Grey-Poupon’s directors joined the company to Maille, an older mustard house, and the new group, which kept the Maille name, soon phased the Grey Poupon label out in France. The American rights had belonged since 1946 to Heublein, a Hartford liquor company, which made the jars in Connecticut from Canadian seed. In 1992 no brand in American homes predicted a top income better than Grey Poupon.
