Givenchy expected Katharine Hepburn when “Miss Hepburn” came to call in 1953.
The visitor was Audrey, still nearly unknown, shopping for Billy Wilder’s Sabrina. Busy with his next collection, Hubert de Givenchy let her take three designs from his spring 1953 line, among them a strapless white ballgown with black embroidery. When Sabrina won the Oscar for costume design, Edith Head accepted it. Givenchy was not named in the film’s credits.
