Fujifilm makes an anti-aging skincare line out of its film chemistry.
Half of a film’s emulsion is collagen, and keeping a photograph from fading is a fight against oxidation, which ages skin too. When demand for camera film fell 90% in ten years, Fujifilm’s labs turned that know-how into Astalift, launched in September 2007. Within six months it was in 2,000 shops, and by 2010 it was selling more than ¥10 billion a year.
