Flickr came from a video game.
Stewart Butterfield, who later co-founded Slack, was building an online world called Game Neverending at his company, Ludicorp. Inside the game, a photo-sharing tool drew more interest than the game did. The game died. In 2005 Yahoo bought the leftover feature for a reported $25 million.
