Fitbit’s first prototype was a circuit board stuffed in a small balsa-wood box.
Its founders, James Park and Eric Friedman, took that wooden box onstage at a 2008 startup conference, hoping the day might bring 50 pre-orders. By day’s end, strangers had placed 2,000 orders for a tracker that didn’t exist yet.
