Expensify’s corporate card was, in its founder’s own words, a Trojan horse.
David Barrett was living in San Francisco’s Tenderloin in 2008, wanting to hand his homeless neighbors a card good for $10 a day at restaurants that didn’t serve alcohol. The banks refused. So he wrapped the same technology in the most boring product he could imagine, and the bankers signed on because they hated their own expense reports.
