Epic Games began as a computer consulting firm that never got off the ground.
Tim Sweeney had stationery printed for Potomac Computer Systems, run out of his parents’ house in Maryland, then reused the leftover letterhead to ship a shareware game in January 1991. Nine months later he renamed the operation Epic MegaGames to make it look like a real company. That December it was filling four orders a day.
