Digg sold for $500,000 four years after Google nearly paid $200 million for it.
In 2008 Google was in final talks to pay $200 million for Digg, the site whose readers voted the web’s stories up and down. Then Google’s engineers interviewed Digg’s, judged them not up to Mountain View’s standards, and the deal was off. In 2012 Betaworks bought Digg for about $500,000, and Google hired its founder, Kevin Rose.
