Creed dates itself to 1760, but its perfume leaves no trace before about 1970.
The house tells of James Henry Creed, appointed by George III to make fragrances in 1760. The Creeds were real tailors who dressed royalty, but no document, letter or advertisement mentions a Creed perfume before the late 20th century. The earliest trace of one is a bottle bearing Olivier Creed’s name from about 1970. In 2023 Kering paid €3.5 billion for the house.
