Chrysler’s founder bought a $5,000 car he could not drive and took it apart.
In 1908 Walter Chrysler, a railroad superintendent, borrowed most of the price of a Locomobile from a banker. For three months he took it apart and rebuilt it in his barn in Iowa before he drove it. The tools he had made himself as an apprentice later sat in a glass case 71 floors up the Chrysler Building.
