Calvin Klein’s break came from an executive who got off at the wrong floor.
In 1968 Calvin Klein was running a coat shop in a New York hotel on $10,000 borrowed from a childhood friend. An executive from the department store Bonwit Teller got off at the wrong floor and walked in. Days later Klein pushed his rack of samples 20 blocks uptown to the store’s president, who ordered $50,000 worth.
