Brunello Cucinelli began with cashmere bought on credit and a dyer who called him crazy.
In 1978 the 25-year-old had the yarn dyed in colors, something cashmere rarely came in then. Today his Milan-listed company is worth about €5.2 billion. It runs from a medieval village he rebuilt from ruins, where the offices empty at half past five.
