Bentley’s owner sued W.O. Bentley for putting his own name in an advert.
Rolls-Royce bought W.O. Bentley’s company in 1931, and in 1935 he left to design for Lagonda. In 1944 Lagonda advertised that “the designs of W O Bentley have always been fine fast cars”. Rolls-Royce’s Bentley subsidiary sued Lagonda and W.O. for trade mark infringement and passing off. After eight days of hearings in late 1946, Rolls-Royce won.
