In 1920 Earle Dickson’s wife Josephine kept cutting and burning her fingers cooking, so he made a bandage she could apply herself — tape with a gauze pad pre-attached. J&J turned the kitchen fix into a product, and more than 100 billion Band-Aids have been sold since.
