Aston Martin is named after a hill and one of its founders.
Lionel Martin co-founded the firm with Robert Bamford in 1913 and lent it his surname. The “Aston” came from Aston Hill, a speed hill-climb where Martin raced before the First World War. The pair’s first car, built in 1915, was named for the hill and for him.
