Arm & Hammer is not named after the tycoon Armand Hammer.
Many assume the baking-soda brand honors oil magnate Armand Hammer. In fact the arm-and-hammer logo is the arm of Vulcan, Roman god of the forge, adopted around 1867. Hammer merely leaned into the lucky coincidence later — the logo predated his birth by 31 years.
